Liebherr wins back-to-back ESTA awards for safety

Liebherr’s LR 1400 SX crawler crane has won the ESTA Award for safety.

The ESTA Awards are the highest distinction for the crane and heavy-lift industry, and Liebherr has now won the safety award for two years in a row.

The LR 1400 SX extends the range of crawler cranes from Liebherr-Werk Nenzing GmbH to include lifting capacities up to 400 tonnes. The crane designers paid particular attention to the safety concept.

“Safety was always an important part of our product development. In recent years, we have focused even more strongly on this with digital solutions and assistance systems,” Gerhard Frainer, managing director for sales at Liebherr-Werk Nenzing GmbH said during the awards ceremony.

“It is important for us that those who operate our cranes feel safe on the jobsite. We want to continue to successfully follow this path,”

The LR 1400 SX is equipped with the assistance system Gradient Travel Aid, which helps to negotiate slopes and inclines. It displays the crane’s centre of gravity and warns the operator before the crane leaves the safe area.

The Ground Pressure Visualization of the LR 1400 SX calculates the current ground pressure of the crane in real time and compares it with the specified safety limits of the relevant position. The ground pressure is displayed in the operator’s cabin. This means the operator is permanently aware of whether the machine is situated in, or is approaching, a critical area.

When erecting or lowering the boom, the Boom Up-and-Down Assistant indicates the approach to the tipping border and automatically stops operation before the operator unintentionally enters an unsafe zone.

“The winning LR 1400 SX is only one example of maximum safety. All our cranes in the LR series are equipped with the same safety systems and fulfil the same criteria,” Frainer said. “The award is an expression of appreciation for our commitment to safe crawler cranes and construction machinery,”

Last, year, Liebherr was awarded in the ESTA Award safety category for the development of WindSpeed Load Charts.

The charts offer increased safety and more operating time when operating the crane in windy conditions.
